Short description & land use (current/history)

After the second world war grazing activity in Styria strongly decreased. Since 1973 the Hochschwab region is a protected area for drinking water supply. Therefore grazing is not allowed. The upper alpine area near the GLORIA summits (Caricetum firmae) most likely was never a favor grazing ground.

Vegetation boundary lines

Tree line and forest line below the GLORIA summit is in a rather natural state, especially in steeper terrain. Possibly it is slightly depressed because of historical land use (grazing).
