GLOBAL OBSERVATION RESEARCH INITIATIVE IN ALPINE ENVIRONMENTS

The GLORIA data input tool (GDIT)

GDIT is written and developed by the GLORIA co-ordination to provide a opportunity for standardised and consistent data handling.

It is written as MS-Access version 97 program by reason of maximum backwards compatibility. Of course it can easily be converted to newer versions of MS-Access.

The individual forms of the tool are a one to one reproduction of the sheets suggested to use in field from the GLORIA Field Manual version 4, making it simple and safe to transfer field data into digital mode. Underlying code is checking for obvious mistakes or inconsistency, and , in the end prepares the 'Upload-package', representing the field data cleaned from all severe errors and compliant to the GLORIA database structure.

The GDIT is compiled specially for each particular target region, following this scheme:

  • After finishing field work, enter your species list into a MS-Excel sheet provided
Please take also a look to the example sheet provided here, in case of any doubts.
  • Send this sheet to the GLORIA co-ordination group, where it will be checked for synonyms and naming conventions
  • The species list will be associated with a GLORIA intern species code, ensuring that taxa are named similar GLORIA-wide
  • This list is compiled into the GDIT, which is sent to you
